SOCIAL CARE WORKER

DETAILS OF POST:

JOB TITLE: Social Care Worker

REPORTS TO: Manager, Cuanlee

LOCATION: Cuanlee Refuge, Kyrls Quay, Cork City

TERMS: This post is based on a *.6 hour week
and is subject to funding.

SALARY: The salary will be commensurate with experience and will be
based on the HSE Social Care Worker Scale **Apply on the

PROBATION: 6 month probationary period applies.

COMMENCEMENT: November *

REQUIREMENTS: This post will include sleepovers, evenings and weekend
working hours. The shifts are worked on a rota basis that operates
over 7 days. It comprises of 7 sleepover shifts in a 4-week period.
The shift pattern is as follows:

* *am-midnight
* Midnight–7am (Sleepover in refuge)
* 7am- *: *am

Premium payments are in operation for unsocial hours and sleepover
hours.

ABOUT THE SERVICE:

Cuanlee refuge provides safe and secure crisis accommodation and
support to women and children experiencing domestic violence and
abuse. The refuge can accommodate 6 families at any given time.
Additional accommodation is also being provided at another location.
This currently consists of 5 apartments and this will increase in the
coming months. This has allowed the staff team to deliver a range of
pre-crisis, crisis and post crisis responses. The continued provision
of off site accommodation is dependent on future funding.

Outreach Support is available to women that require emotional and
practical support, but are not necessarily in need of emergency
accommodation. A * hour helpline is available
and offers support * days a year. Court
accompaniment and preparation for court is offered to residents and
outreach clients. Ongoing safety planning is incorporated into all of
the work and keyworking and care planning are a central part of our
work programme with residents. A number of child centred, therapeutic
services are also available to support children in their journey
towards healing.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

This role will primarily aim to support the women and children
residing in the refuge. It will also comprise of some support work
that will be offered to the women and children residing in the
apartments. The work will be carried out in a way that allows the
accommodation services to work collaboratively.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST:

* To observe and enforce the organisations confidentiality policy in
relation to all aspects of the service
* To adhere to Cuanlee’s Policies and Procedures and best practice
at all times.
* To regularly revise and comply with Health and Safety Procedures
and Regulations.
* To write accurate, clear and consise reports, client files and
maintain documentation in accordance with the organisations recording
system (Salesforce) and the Freedom of information Act.
* To work according to Childrens First Guidelines and report child
protection concerns in a timely manner to Tusla.
* To attend and fully participate in staff meetings, supervision and
training.
* To take direction and support from management to ensure that the
highest possible level of care is provided at all times.
* To communicate regularly with management and seek support and
guidance when required.
* To carry out all duties and responsibilities in a professional and
respectful manner.
* To attend court hearings and give evidence if required.
* To carry out and record security checks of rooms and the building
in accordance with the health and safety guidelines.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* To work as part of a team and engage with refuge staff in an open
communicative manner that allows all aspects of the service to operate
collaboratively.
* To support other refuge staff by liasing and working
co-operatively around referrals, assessments, care plans,
accompaniments and follow up that may be required.
* To actively participate and provide leadership in the provision of
accommodation and in particular to liaise with colleagues to ensure a
holistic care approach with families.
* To complete all aspects of the admission and discharge procedure
and ensure that clients are familiar with all of the ongoing supports
available to them.
* To be part of a key working and case management system. This will
include the development and implementation of a structured care plan
with clients. This will recognise the safety needs of the family.
* To engage with clients in a manner that empowers them and enables
them to be active participants in future planning for any aspects of
their lives.
* To provide a comprehensive advocacy service that offers support
and assistance on relevant matters including; preparation for court,
housing applications, social welfare, rights/entitlements, accessing
childcare services and health.
* To provide an accompaniment service that offers support and
advocacy. Accompaniments can include but are not limited to court,
social welfare, housing, legal aid, social work, healthcare
appointments, Gardai.
* To engage with and develop connections with community support
services and other networks. This will facilitate a two-way approach
to sending and receiving referrals from relevant services. This will
be done in a safe and client centred manner, that will provide the
client with options and additional supports. It will also raise
awareness of Cuanlee support services in the wider community.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

* Third level qualification at degree level in Social Science, Social
Care or a related field (minium level 7).
* A minimum of 1 years’ experience working with women and children
that have experienced domestic violence or abuse.
* Excellent theoretical and professional knowledge and understanding
of domestic violence, its impact on women and children and the theory
related to trauma and recovery.
* A working knowledge of all legislation related to this field of
work (Domestic Violence Act, Childrens First, Child Care Act, Freedom
of Information Act etc.)
* Comprehensive risk assessment skills as well as knowledge and
experience of safety planning and care planning with
individuals/families.
